{Ponderings}: Thankful for the Little Things

I think that part of living a quiet life is recognizing the need to notice the little things. I have always been someone who can truly just stop in the moment and look at the beauty around me and become almost overwhelmed. I even have a diary entry that I wrote when I was about 9 years old where I talked about lying in the grass watching the clouds and just being so overcome with how beautiful it was.
I’ve always had a deep connection with a quiet, country life.
Even in the busiest time of the year for us- with all the canning that needs to get done, the endless hours taking care of the kids with my husband gone doing bear stuff, the half-built duck house and the ever-needy animals…I try to just stop. Look around. Notice the hint of Fall in the air, the way the leaves sound as the wind drifts through them, the feel of the dry grass beneath my feet, and the beautiful (almost tame) little critter munching on greens nearby.
If you’re a creature of the country, be proud. In this fast-paced world, you are one of the few who cherishes these simple moments. You’re one of those people who make me feel like I’m not the only one left on this earth longing for days long before my time. That even in a place that hands us everything- we want to do it the hard way. The right way. The natural, God-intended way.
Keep doing what you’re doing, and I will too.

  1. I guess I’m getting to be a country minded creature. The more chaotic this world is getting, the more the country minded part of me would love to go back to the days when things were done the right way, or the natural way as God intended.

Even so, I have decided that “technology” has its place, and it is okay, as long as we don’t place it in the way of our stopping to smell the roses we planted!
